Washing Wednesday

Raising LIONS and TIGERS

I have often wondered why we call it "raising" children...until I watched Robinhood. We have become pretty big fans of Redbox $1 rentals (and occasionally FREE!) It makes for an easy date night after the kiddos are in bed. So last week we rented Robinhood (the one with Russell Crow-the only one i had ever seen was the Disney version) There was a line in it that being the spiritual-izer that i am really spoke to me. It says "Rise and rise again until lambs become lions". I LOVED that and thinking of the task of raising these two little rascals i thought of how they are born like lambs...relatively helpless, dependant, soft, snuggly, requiring lots of sleep and protection...and how it is my job to teach them to rise after falling (literally at first) and then as they progressively get hurt by the sin and pain in the world. To teach them to raise their gaze to Christ when they are down, to instill a brave strong, fearless-if God is for me who can be against teach them to lead and be lionhearted..TO RAISE THEM into LIONS..
Then today, on my way to Knoxville one of my favorite songs came on the radio and for some reason (again being a spiritual-izer) i was moved to courage as a mom.

So many times, it happens too fast
You change your passion for glory
Don’t lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

It’s the, eye of the tiger, it’s the thrill of the fight
Risin’ up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
And he’s watchin’ us all with the eye of the tiger…

So yes it happens so fast.(Dreams of the past:I used to DREAM of being a mommy..changing diapers, fixing bottles, rocking babies, cooking) I role played it for years as a child. But how much does the world tempt me to trade that passion for glory?! For me to teach everyday full time, leaving my family to have the glory (money, the title, the position, the notice of the public for your work and service) I am tempted to trade my passion for glory...I must fight just to keep those dreams alive-realizing the privildge it is to live out my dream. I wanted to be a mommy who was known for kindness and consistency and love to her family-to have a neat home and for people to feel loved and welcome when they are around me..This task is far far harder than i dreamed and i dare say that as far as the lions and tigers go i feel i would be better trained as a zookeeper, but it IS a nobel, difficult task this "raising" children business..

But may i have the eye of the fearless tiger, thrilled to fight for their souls..rising up to the challenge of our rival knowing that He that is within me is Greater than he that is in the world!!

Be encouraged mommies out there, though you like me are exhausted, overworked and may relate more to the line Face to face, out in the heat Hangin’ tough, stayin’ hungry because you don't know the last time you ate a meal without someone needing to potty or spilling something or getting up to get one more thing you forgot..The heat is on. This mom stuff is not for the timid and weak..i dare say you need some lion and tiger is you just to accomplish it..The lion thought is not too far off read below to see it used in refering to Christ and one of the 12 SONS of Israel-Judah...

And one of the elders said to me, "Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered..REV 5:5

Judah is a lion's cub; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down; he crouched as a lion and as a lioness; who dares rouse him? GEN 49:9
